During the reign of the Yongzheng Emperor in the Qing Dynasty, Zhang Da-jing, the interpreter between the government and the indigenous Anli Community, built a reservoir at Pizikou in Fengyuan to draw water from the Dajia River for irrigation. This led to the opening of the Taichung basin to cultivation, and 200 years later, the ample waters of this canal flow through every corner of Greater Taichung. Taichung City possesses inspiring natural beauty, an abundant tradition in the humanities, local cultural and creative industries, numerous diverse events for expressing culture, delicious foods that blend the essence of various localities, shopping, leisure spots, and a comfortable, convenient environment.

One way to appreciate the beauty of Taichung includes planning diverse and enchanting routes for cultural tourism through four zones: mountains, ocean, villages, and cities. Following the coast, visitors can view the fishing ports and the gorgeous wetland ecosystems, and an exploration of the mountain route will reveal village railways, beautiful Hakka towns, and seas of flowers. A village route offers sights like the Laiyuan Garden relics at the Wufeng Lin Family residence, and the city provides a survey of trendy scenes and gourmet delicacies.
